Located at the end of Avenida Tancredo Neves, 10 km from downtown Foz do Iguaçu, the Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Plant is a joint work of two nations, Brazil and Paraguay. The word comes from Itaipu Tupi-Guarani and means "stone that sings."

Its construction is one of the greatest works of humanity, benefiting the Paraguayan territory and regions south, southeast and central-west Brazil.

The Stone that Sings
With 12,600,000 kilowatt generating capacity, Itaipu has 18 units with rated power of 700,000 kWh each. Nine units generate power from 50 Hz frequency used in Paraguay and the other nine generate power from 60 Hz, which is unified rate for all Brazil.
During every day of the week take place at regular visits. Duration approx. of the visit: 2hs30min.

You can make the visit following the Brazilian Falls Excursion, or transfer mode "Private". In both modes does not include admission.

Open to the visitor to Itaipu Dam:
Departures every hour from 8:00 am until 16:00 pm.
